🎣 A short morning angling session and seven on the bounce where I’ve caught
As far as my angling destination is concerned, I’ve switched and swapped a few times during the course of the year so far. As they say though, variety is the spice of life. This morning, I headed for a pond.
It was quite a breezy day anyway, and the location of this particular venue is perfect when there’s a strong wind in the making. I fished with my standard set-up, a 0.8g Drennan crystal waggler and a size 16 Drennan Super Specialist hook. Bait was one/two maggots.
The water is about one metre deep and, at the moment, it looks decent because there is a tinge of colour to it, due to the rain that we’ve had in recent days. Usually it is crystal clear and, especially in the winter, more of a challenge to fish.
However, as we all know, just because we tick the boxes it doesn’t mean to say that we’re going to have a fish-filled session. That was the case today. Still, I was on the right side of the line with small roach. I fished for 1.75 hours.
As far as the natural world was concerned, I saw an early cormorant. It landed on the pond but, as soon as it spotted me, it was off again. Who knows what damage it could have caused if I wasn’t there, especially if it decided to hang around for some time.
A pair of ravens flew over, calling in flight. I managed to capture them in the video as well, song thrushes that is. There are resident stock doves in the area and it’s unusual not to at least hear one. On this occasion I also spotted a bird as well.
