🎣 Fishing the River Severn with four species on the bank including a brace of quality perch
Keeping an eye on the government’s Check For Flooding website, I noticed that there was a spike in the level of the River Severn, in the middle reaches. However, continuing to monitor the site, it dropped back down again and was reading ‘steady’.
Therefore, when I went to bed, just after midnight, my plan was to get up nice and early a few hours later and hit the river. When I did rise though, the first thing I did was to check the site again. The good news was that it continued to be stable.
I had a spot in mind that I wanted to fish and, when I arrived at the water’s edge, it was no surprise that the stretch was devoid of anglers. It is mid week after all, and I am very fortunate that I can go fishing every day of the week, if I want to. And I do.
The river had some pace to it, as far as the main flow was concerned, and that’s where you look for the slacks which are plentiful on the middle seven. I fished with a cage feeder and, as always, you can see the tackle and approach in the video.
I caught my first gudgeon of the year, which takes me to 7 species. In addition I banked dace, roach and perch, with a couple of crackers as far as the latter is concerned. I did weigh them and the best fish was 2-1-12, which is my biggest perch of the year so far.
