🎣 Saturday morning tench and 1,101 consecutive weeks

Before I even put the kettle on and loaded the car, it was a great start to the day because, as I stepped on the scales in the bedroom, the readout told me that I had lost yet another pound in my Austerity August challenge.

Once on the lake, I went through my usual routine of brown crumb and sweetcorn mixed into small balls and thrown out by hand twenty metres from the bank.

Then, I cast over the baited area with a single grain of corn, settled back and waited.

Although there were no feeding bubbles, nevertheless I could tell from the liners and the plucks that I had tench out there, and that was confirmed when I struck, played a netted a tinca.

I ended with three tench and had the luxury of a couple of hook-pulls as well in the three-hour session.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notes: Two great white egrets high in flight in a northerly direction. I also spotted cinnabar moth caterpillars feeding on common ragwort and captured them in the video.

Today is 1,101 consecutive Saturdays of blogging.

The key to the longevity of my blog is that I enjoy it.

It really is a simple as that.

It’s always been a pleasure and never a burden.
