🎣 ⚽️ Fishing and football – Radio, the day before the big one and six species of fish from the upper Severn
They say that time flies and, in my case, that is certainly true.
Maybe it’s because the older you get, the more years you have behind you, and things do seem to merge from one to another in a much faster rate than when you were younger.
What I do know though is that my weekly Bayside Radio chats with Jeff Pearson come round so quickly, that I often wonder, where did the week go.
After talking angling and Welsh football, I loaded the car with fishing tackle and made my way to Park Hall.
It’s called killing two birds with one stone: I go to work and then I go fishing.

After the pre-match press conference interview with Craig Harrison, I departed the stadium and made my way to the upper reaches of the River Severn.
As you can see from the video, the river above the confluence with the Vyrnwy is very different indeed to both the middle and lower sections.
I fished both a single and double white maggot mid-river, over brown crumb and mixed maggots, and I had a bite every single cast.
You can follow the session via the video and although I didn’t catch anything big, nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed myself. That’s what angling is all about.
I caught six species of fish – bleak, chub, dace, gudgeon, minnow and perch – which is a great indicator of the variety that can be found in the Welsh Severn.
Tackle: John Wilson Masterline Debut 9’ rod. Shimano 2500 reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. 1/2 ounce lead, shot, bead and Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
