Happy birthday to my young wife, an early morning tench session and cleaning the car
🎉 Yesterday was my wife’s birthday and although I said goodbye to my fifties in 2022, she’s just about hanging on in there.
Although I might be biased, I do think she’s looking very good for her age.
Combined with the fact that I didn’t get to bed until the early hours of the morning after driving home from Flint, plus I had some post-match media stuff to do, I didn’t go fishing.
🎣 I was up early this morning though for a couple of hours in pursuit of tench.
I have noticed in recent weeks especially, that the days are now getting much shorter, as autumn draws closer.
As far as the session was concerned, I was on the lake that has occupied much of my time this summer.
I decided to try a different section of the venue this time, fishing off lilies.
I cast out and waited. And waited. And waited.
You get the picture.

🪱 Tackle & bait: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and 8mm bead.
Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Single grain of corn over brown crumb and sweetcorn, just off the lilies.
🦆 Nature notes: Great black-backed gull in flight.
House martins (c.5) feeding over lake.
🚗 Once home, and after unloading my angling gear, I cleaned the car.
I do that twice a week, once on the outside like today, and then the inside.
I find that by being regular that it doesn’t take very long at all each time.
I can imagine that if you leave your car untouched for months then it can take some considerable time to clean it.
That’s when it becomes a burden.
