💷 Premium bonds draw, semi-retirement and the key to life
It’s that time of the month again, when the premium bonds draw is made, and my wife and I eagerly await to see whether we’re going on a round the world cruise this year or having a week in an Anglesey cottage.
Well, Wales it is again, although we did much better than last month, with £275 between us.
Since I went semi-retired, the income from the monthly draw is a big thing for us.
As far as the decision to drop to a part-time situation was concerned, it was all about quality of life.
From a financial angle, we’re only just the right side of the line, but absolutely determined to stay there. Which we will.
I love the fact that I can go fishing when I choose, walk the valley at any time of the day (or night), potter around the garden at will and basically do what I want.
And why not?
I started work when I was 16 and I’ve worked ever since, so why not, if you can, slow down in your sixties?
The powers-that-be would work us until the day we die if they could.
You only have to look at the rising state pension age to see that.
Anyway, back to my cruise v Wales comment, in reality even if I did win big bucks, I’d still do the latter.
That’s the key, isn’t it, live a simple life by choice and if you’re happy, then you’ve already hit the jackpot anyway.
