🎣 An earlier start on the canal, as the days get longer

I find that my body clock adapts very quickly to my angling schedule, and with early morning starts the order of the day at the moment, I was awake at 4.00 a.m. naturally and with no need of an alarm.

In no time at all – I load the car while the kettle is boiling – I was on my way while the dawn chorus was still very much in its infancy.

The recent sessions on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal have been much slower than my initial visits.

In fact, I had to wait forty minutes before the first bite when a perch was followed very quickly by a bream.

Although I tried to steer the latter away from the baited area, it didn’t want to play ball, and it took some time for the swim to settle.

I added one more bream and then I went home and it was still only 7.00 a.m.
