🗳️ The votes have been counted and a few thoughts

Following on from the elections in my area, where five positions were up for grabs, Labour held one (police and crime commissioner) and took two (mayor and a councillor), while the Conservatives held on to two councillors.

Certainly in line with national trends and, as far as the blue side is concerned, it could have been worse.

On a national level, Sadiq Khan begins his third-term as the man at the top in London.

Mind you, his Conservative challenger was racist, a white supremacist and an Islamophobe.

Well, according to the gospel of Wes Streeting anyway.

This is the first election – and this is just the beginning – where we’ve seen the flexing of Islamic political muscle in numerous locations.

‘This is for Gaza’, they angrily declare, chanting Allahu Akbar in the process.

I don’t think the Green Party councillor in Leeds is going to concern himself with wheelie bins, potholes and saving the planet, is he?
