🎣 Slow fishing on the canal but at least I was on the right side of the line

In terms of species and venues, my fishing tends to be in blocks, and that’s the case at the moment with canal bream on the agenda.

Not only is my rod ready to go but, as I’m in the same general spot, I don’t even need the plummet.

Put three red maggots on the hook, cast out and I’m fishing.

Up at 4.30 a.m. it won’t be long before I’m fishing at that time, never mind stirring from the pit.

Loading the car at home, there was a great dawn chorus in full swing.

I love nature’s early morning symphony.

The fishing itself was very slow indeed and I realised why when I saw pike activity in the swim, although I’m not blaming the predator for the fact that I only caught one small roach about 4oz.

Until the end that is.

Also, I didn’t notice the roach releasing milt until afterwards and I looked at the video, otherwise I’d have returned it immediately.

My catch was more respectable when I banked a bream right at the death.

At least I was on the right side of the line.

I fished the boat channel over brown crumb and mixed maggots.
