🎣 A sharp overnight drop in air temperature but the angling continues, don’t flog a dead ‘oss’ and a walk in local woodland
My fourth angling session of the year and without doubt, due to the conditions, the most challenging yet.
However, as long as your bait’s in the water and all that, and I was thrilled to continue the run of outings this year where I’ve caught something.

Fished three rod-lengths out, in five feet of open water, over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two white maggots on the hook. Switched to another spot, flicked the bait below overhanging trees.
Tackle
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Handmade 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Nature notes
Two resident moorhens on the pool joined by a third bird, which they saw off. The commotion attracted a coot – a pair have recently taken up residence themselves – which flew from end of the pool to the other in order to join in the attack on the moorhen. Kingfisher flew the length of the pool, landing on overhanging branches, before moving on.
