❄️ Blogging in January 2025

🎣 An early morning roach session and, although it had the potential to be a disaster, it wasn’t

Although it was a cold start to the day – I had to scrape ice from the car before I could leave the drive – it was only just into the freeze zone and it didn’t feel anywhere near as harsh as the previous morning.

I returned to the small pool swim from yesterday that kept my run of catching fish going.

Would that be the case this time round?

Well, it was a very slow start to the session and that continued.

I was extremely clumsy as well, knocking things over and getting tangled. You know the sort of thing.

Albeit just one roach, it came good in the end though.

Fished three rod-lengths out, in five feet of open water, over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two red maggots on the hook, flicking the bait beneath overhanging trees.

Tackle

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Nature notes

Three noisy ring-necked parakeets in flight. Cormorant circled the pool but saw me and moved on.
