🎣 Up and about while it was still dark and the first fish of 2025 is…
Although I didn’t get to bed until the early hours of the morning, I was still awake and ready to hit the new year just four hours later.
I haven’t drunk alcohol for forty years and these are the types of situations where you definitely feel the benefit of a teetotal lifestyle.
It was very wet and windy, as I made the flask of tea in the kitchen at home, and even my dog didn’t want to go in the garden.
Opening the back door, he looked up and down the entry, and went back upstairs to bed.
As far as I was concerned, I loaded the car and went fishing.
On a small pool, I thought I’d start the year pursuing roach and that’s exactly what I caught.
Nothing big but a steady trickle of action once the fish moved in.
I was fishing a couple of rod lengths from the bank, in six feet of water and beyond the drop off, fishing over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two white maggots on the hook.
Tackle
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Handmade 3” float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Nature notes
Two very vocal ring-necked parakeets in woodland alongside the pool. After moving on, an hour later four flew into the wood.
