🎣 A mini-species session pursuing three-spined sticklebacks on a brook
With ponds, pools and lakes all covered in a solid layer of ice, the only option at the moment is to fish flowing water.
After yesterday’s session on the River Stour, I fancied a complete change this morning.
It’s been a long time since I targeted three-spined sticklebacks and so that’s the route my angling took today.
I visited a brook, not knowing if I would encounter any fish, but I’m thrilled to say that I did.
I love the mini-species and I was buzzing afterwards.
You can follow the session in the video.
Tackle
Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through. A small shot was nipped on the line, six inches from the Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook. Bait was a single red maggot.
Nature notes
Several noisy jackdaws in trees alongside the brook.
