🎣 Another angling session on the River Severn and it comes good with the last cast
After yesterday’s very enjoyable session on the River Severn, no guesses where today’s angling journey took me.
It was another afternoon outing and, as you can see from the video, it was a cold start to the day, although the ice shifted as the sun rose.
I was fishing to overhanging branches – the middle Severn is great for these kind of features – and casting just this side of the main flow, allowing the cage feeder to settle naturally.
Filling it with bread mash, I cast several times early on to build up the swim and then less frequently afterwards.
Alternating between bread and Red Leicester cheese on the hook, I missed two bites on the latter.
Was it going to be a blank, I wondered, as I cast for the final time.
Well, the answer to that is in the video as my target species (chub) put in an appearance.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with an eight-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 5mm bead. Drennan 25g cage feeder. Size 6 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Cormorant and raven in flight. Several goosanders on the river. Pair of blue tits mating. Song thrush in undergrowth.
