🎣 A vegetarian pike on the bank and talking angling on radio
We are in a mild spell at the moment and so I decided to target bream on a small pool, with the outside possibility of a very early tench.
Neither fish are abundant numerically in the venue, and so I knew it was going to be a challenge anyway, with the possibility of a roach also a realistic proposition.
Fishing a grain of sweetcorn over brown crumb and sweetcorn, it was very quiet indeed and then, without warning, the tip pulled round.
I found myself playing and then netting a small pike. My first of the year.
It was only a short session anyway, as I had to get back for my weekly Bayside Radio recording with Jeff Pearson.
It went well and there are a couple of clips in the video.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 5mm bead. Above that was a 1/8 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Song thrush in full song at first light. Grey heron flew over.
