🎣 First angling session of the month, a lesson in perseverance and an ornithological first for the year
I was out first thing on February 1, fishing a pond.
I fished in five feet of water, over brown crumb and red/white maggots, with two red/white maggots on the hook, fishing towards branches that trailed in the water.
Although it was a cold morning, I was still very hopeful of getting something on the bank.
I did. Eventually. All is revealed in the video.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Nature notes: Moorhen sitting a nest, the first nesting site of the year that I’ve come across. That’s exceptionally early, especially so when you consider that building would have started in January, although they can construct a nest in a day. Kingfisher flew low across the pond. Two noisy ring-necked parakeets flew into woodland. Resident raven in the immediate area.
