A pleasant surprise on prawn
With Gerrit having passed, I decided to take advantage of the calm – and mild – conditions by doing a pond prawn session in pursuit of perch.
I fished in a spot that I’ve been in before.
Just off the end of overhanging branches, it looks very ‘perchy’ and I’ve caught some decent (taking the venue into account) fish from there previously.
When I had a couple of light plucks on the rod tip, I was very hopeful of another.
However, striking at the third one, I found myself bringing in a roach.
Not that I’m complaining though, far from it.
After all, although it wasn’t my target species, it was still caught fair and square.
Plus, it proved to be the only one of the session, which meant that I wasn’t a blanker.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special rod. Okuma Zeon reel. Maxima Chameleon 6lb line. 1/8 ounce lead. Small shot and bead to create a 6 inch hook length. Drennan Super Specialist size 8 hook.
Nature notes: Single raven spotted when in flight, calling 400 yards away from woodland.
Cormorant landed on the pond as I was packing away.
