Different plans for January, for now though the pond life continues
I do have some very different angling plans for January, more of that in due course, but for now I’m continuing with the pond life.
On one of my regular woodland venues at first light, the approach was the same as the others.
It’s pretty much a case of adjusting the depth of the float, in this instance to just short of three feet.
With a shot either side of the waggler, the two white maggots sank naturally in the water and settled on the bottom.
Fishing about one rod-length from the bank, no casting as such was involved, just flicking the float out then watching and waiting.
I haven’t had many blanks at all this winter – I can only think of one – and again I caught.
Perch are always a possibility from this pond but it’s basically a roach venue.
That was how it worked out this time as well.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.
Nature notes: A flock of c.50 feeding siskins in the common alder trees that fringe the pond.
