Storm Pia? No problem, just go fishing anyway
I looked at the weather forecast for today and saw that it was windy, with gusts up to 50 mph.
It’s what we used to call a breezy day, now they have names and I didn’t realise I’d survived Pia until later in the day.
It has been very severe elsewhere in the country though, with damage to property.
I know a pool that, taking the wind direction into account, was perfect.
And it was, as there was hardly a ripple on the surface.
Float fishing in water that was in excess of six feet deep very close in, I didn’t even have any issues with casting.
I caught lots of roach on double white maggots in the hour or so I was there, then it was time to go Christmas food shopping with my wife.
While she battled the supermarket queues, I went to get some maggots.
By the time I was back again, she was ready to go through the checkout.
All I needed to do was add two packs of prawns to the trolley.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.
Nature notes: On arrival at the pool, a grey heron was perched on a very low overhanging branch, watching the water.
Hi Stewart, I work in Aldridge and have seen and heard Ring neck parakeets regularly over the last few weeks, Also saw a flock of about 10 flying over near Walsall Arboretum (heard them first) very vocal birds.
