Fishing, a first garden bird tick and next stop, Milford Haven
It’s very mild at the moment and getting up first thing is pleasant enough.
There’s no scraping ice from the car windows, which is something I have done a few times already this winter.
On a pool, where I’ve been recently, the roach were again very obliging and I had a bite every cast.
The water is six feet off the rod tip, so no casting involved, just a gentle flick.
I nipped a size 8 shot about four inches from the hook to get the two white maggots down on the deck, although even then I caught lots of roach on the drop.
The fish were all small but I enjoyed it, which is the most important thing.
When I arrived home I heard it first, and as I looked up, I saw it.
My first garden ring-necked parakeet tick.
It was high in flight, making its way across the valley in a NW direction.
They have become quite common in the wider area in recent months.
After a shower and a change, I was on the road again, this time to Pembrokeshire.
It’s JD Cymru Premier action for The New Saints this weekend and tonight I’m staying in Milford Haven, at Tŷ Milford to be precise.
It looks really nice and I’m looking forward to feeding the tourist gene while I’m there.

Nature notes: On arrival there was a grey heron perched on a low branch overhanging the water. It was in exactly the same spot as per my previous visit.
Hi Stewart, I work in Aldridge and have seen and heard Ring neck parakeets regularly over the last few weeks, Also saw a flock of about 10 flying over near Walsall Arboretum (heard them first) very vocal birds. Nice hotel there Stewart, even though it resembles a maze inside, don’t know if I’d find my way out of there he he. And right by the marina too, lovely view, shame you can’t fish there, enjoy 😁 x
