Make a flask of tea, load the car, scrape ice off the windshield and go fishing, followed by my weekly angling slot on Bayside Radio
For the third time this autumn, we had an overnight frost, therefore before I could depart the drive, I was scraping ice. I only had a couple of hours to go fishing and I opted to fish a pond that I am familiar with.
You can follow the session via the video, where I caught perch and roach and, although it did slow down for the last thirty minutes or so, it was quite a busy time as far as float movement was concerned. It was the perfect antidote to yesterday’s blank on the canal.
I always keep an eye open for what’s going on in the natural world when I’m fishing and on this occasion, I didn’t have to wait long, as a robin landed alongside me as soon as I placed my gear on the ground. I continued to feed it throughout the session.
In my addition, a pair of grey wagtails flew across the pond, a single noisy ring-necked parakeet made its way into far bank woodland, two calling ravens passed through and three female mandarin ducks landed before they saw me and fire away.
The reason it was, by necessity, a short session was because I had my weekly Bayside Radio angling chat with Jeff Pearson in my diary. I can’t believe how quickly it comes round. Time flies when you’re having fun.
