Perch fishing on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal as the early bird catches the worm
After my session on the River Severn yesterday, it was back to the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal this morning at first-light. With other plans for later in the morning, a couple of hours pursuing perch on the ‘cut’ was perfect.
Although I’m retired, and therefore have a lot more free time than when I worked, nevertheless there are still things that you need to do, places you have to go and appointments that are scheduled. I’m hardly complaining though, far from it.
Pushing on in November, it won’t be long now before winter begins. In the meantime though, there are plenty of autumnal perch sessions on the canal planned. Apart from the fact that it’s a great season for the species, there are stretches of the Staffs & Worcs Canal that look stunning.
It was the aesthetics that drew me to the stretch I fished today. Before the leaves on the trees disappear fully, I’m enjoying the general area very much indeed. You can follow the session via the video, where I caught perch and roach.
I fished for 2.5 hours, but the action progressively decreased as time went by. ‘The early bird catches the worm’ is a great principle to live life by but, certainly when it comes to angling, it’s extremely applicable. That’s where I’ll be tomorrow morning as well, on the canal pursuing perch.
