As Storm Claudia hits, the fishing continues and ‘You must be mad’
Sometimes, when a named storm sweeps across the country, we don’t feel the effects too much where I live, as it might be the north of England, or usually Scotland and Northern Ireland, that take the brunt of the weather. On this occasion though, Claudia passed directly through our region.
However, it didn’t stop me from fishing. There are a couple of important points though to consider – and I cover those in the video – which are safety and being able to fish properly. They could be summed up in three words: Location, location, location.
On a pond, I fished about one-rod length from the bank in clear water. A few months back, the swim would have been a mass of lilies and weed. Now though, the underwater vegetation has been stripped back and, although swim selection was determined by the conditions, I was still able to fish below overhanging branches.
The session was always going to be a short one anyway, regardless of the weather, and in the couple of hours or so I was there, I caught a few perch. As far as the natural world was concerned, there were four mallards (three males and a female) and a moorhen on the pond.
While out in the adverse conditions today, I thought of a time, many years ago, when I was walking to the beach in north Wales to do some fishing. I met a lady who said to me that, ‘You must be mad’, and there’s more on that in the video.
