Playing football in the rain and fishing in the rain, you can’t let the weather dictate to you and Luke Roper talks Aston Villa
As always, on Tuesday evening, I played football. Although I haven’t been to a live game since December 22 last year, which was the day I retired, nevertheless I have continued to pull the boots on myself. Watching it is good, so is working in it, but you can’t beat playing football.
We won as well, plus I nearly scored. Intercepting a pass, I took the ball forward and went for goal with my left foot. The ball smashed the woodwork and unfortunately, for me, didn’t end up in the back in the back of the net. One of my teammates said that, if it had gone in, it would have been the goal of the decade.
Well, I’m just happy to still be playing at the age of sixty-three. It was a wet night anyway but, towards the end, the heavens opened as a storm passed. It was an extremely torrential downpour that lasted for the best part of thirty minutes.
It was nice to get home, shower and put my pyjamas on for the night. By the time I went to bed it was 1.00 a.m. but I was still up a few hours later, to go fishing, and that’s where the video picks up.
The three-hours session on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal was also a wet one but, as the heading states, just get on with it. I caught perch and roach and, saw Luke Roper again, on his regular run along the towpath. I also took the opportunity to chat with him, on this occasion, about Aston Villa.
