Another sub-zero temperature day but, whatever the weather, go fishing anyway
Today will be the last one of the current cold spell and, venturing outside this morning, it felt like the weather wanted to go out with a bang. For the first time in my recent visits, the pond was frozen. It started off as 10% but, by the time I left, the ratio was the other end of the scale, with just a small amount fishable.
I didn’t even get a bite on this occasion in the two hours that I was there. The nature spotting was more productive though, with a male sparrowhawk, grey heron, three kingfisher sightings and both raven and ring-necked parakeets heard but not seen.
I did spot an American mink as well, making its way along the far bank. I’m not a fan of those at all. You may think that, being a keen naturalist, I love everything that moves. Well, that’s not the case. The mink is not native, it doesn’t belong here and it’s a ruthless killer of other wildlife.
