🎣 Inspired to return to the pool

📹 Inspired to return to the pool

In spite of not catching, I enjoyed my last angling session in pursuit of roach on a pool.

I was certainly inspired to return, and with my jury service appointment not until lunchtime, I was out at first light.

The pool was still the same, as I expected it to be, a horrible murky colour and up several inches due to the heavy rain that Storm Henk had deposited.

I flicked a grain of corn 1-2 rod-lengths from the bank, tightened up and settled back.

It goes without saying that the conditions are tough at the moment, so it was very pleasing to catch roach.

They were my target, and although I could have used lighter line, I stayed with the reel that was already on the rod.

Firstly, the fish aren’t hook-shy in the pool, and secondly, there are small carp present, so if I hooked one of those I wanted to have a good chance of landing it.

After a very enjoyable hour or so, I went home and got ready for the next stage of the day.

What do the next few months have in store?

I’ll find out shortly.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special rod. Okuma Zeon reel. Maxima Chameleon 6lb line. 1/8 ounce lead. Small shot and bead to create a 6 inch hook length. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

Nature notes: Vocal ravens in flight, single bird followed by a pair. Single ring-necked parakeet high in flight and vocal.
