🎣 My angling year is a marathon, not a sprint

If you’re an angler in the UK, you won’t need reminding how difficult the conditions are at the moment.

Forget flowing water, with banks burst and fields flooded, that’s out of the question.

Even the still waters have been negatively affected though, whether they’re in flood themselves or they’re a horrible colour due to sediment being washed in.

As long as your bait’s in the water though, and all that, which was the case on this session.

The pool I fished didn’t look inviting at all, but I fished anyway.

Just off the rod tip in a couple of metres of water, I went for the float option on this occasion.

I fished a grain of sweetcorn over loose corn, and while the action wasn’t hectic, it was still steady.

I’m looking to get more into specimen angling again this year and while the 5 1/2 ounce roach that I caught isn’t a monster, it is the biggest so far of 2024.

Oh, and by the way, last cast I lost a roach that was about the one-pound mark.

That’s certainly inspired a return.
