🎣 And the first fish of 2024 is…
For years I’ve started the new year on the bank at first light.
However, this time I broke with tradition.
I’m going to be doing jury service from January 2nd, so wanted to kick the year off birding rather than angling.
I did and I enjoyed it, both garden and valley birding as I got my lists off to a decent start.
Then, for the last couple of hours of daylight I visited the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal.
The section I fished hasn’t been as productive as it used to be for a lot of anglers that I’ve spoken to in recent years.
However, although I’ve also found that quantity has declined, quality has been pretty good.
I’ve banked some decent fish from there.
Fishing the boat channel this time with two red maggots over maggots and brown crumb, I had lots of bites but I couldn’t hit them.
Then, right at the very end, I rescued the session and avoided a blank.
