Phil Connors (played by Bill Murray), Rita Hanson (played by Andie MacDowell) and Larry the cameraman (played by Chris Elliott) are sent to Punxsutawney in Pennsylvania by their television station.
It’s the annual groundhog day and Phil, the groundhog, predicts when winter will end.
This is an actual event in the town.
Phil Connors finds himself trapped in the same day. Every time he wakes at 6.00 a.m. to the same song on the radio but for everyone else it’s a new day.
The movie follows his adventures and in the end the repetition is broken as he falls in love with Rita.
