🎣 Returning to the River Severn in pursuit of specimen chub
As the days become weeks and the months themselves start to accumulate, you become very aware that the flowing water angling season is going in the opposite direction, as far as time is concerned.
In fact, we are much closer to March 15 than we are to January 1.
Taking that into account, today’s session was on the Severn, as I want to make the most of the next month or so before rivers shut up shop for three months.
I had a swim in mind, as I made my way to the middle Severn in Shropshire, and although there were another two anglers’ vehicles parked, the fishermen themselves weren’t in my chosen spot.
The river is normal winter level and I had overhanging trees ten yards below where I set up.
Casting the feeder just off the branches, I let it hit the bed, gave it some line and let it settle.
I wasn’t there long before I had my first tap on the rod.
This was immediately followed by another on the next cast and I had fish number one on the bank, a nice chub, which you can see in the video.
That proved to be the only one, actually, in the five hours that I fished.
I filled the cage feeder with bread mash and alternated between white bread and Red Leicester cheese as bait, with both moulded around the hook.
