❄️ Blogging in February 2025

🎣 A cold start to the working week but the brook sticklebacks were still feeding and talking angling on radio

What better way to start the working week than a fishing session, even if it was just for forty-five minutes.

On a very small brook in pursuit of three-spined sticklebacks, you can’t stay in one spot for too long anyway, as a few fish on the bank exhaust the swim.

It was another cold start to the day and, with an air temperature of minus-2C, I was scraping ice from the car windshield before I could set off.

The fishing was very slow and, although I did have a few fish come off as I lifted the rod, I also banked some.

The biggest was 2.7g, which is an excellent weight for the species.

Back home, and after a shower, I did my weekly Bayside Radio recording where I talk about fishing.

As always, there’s some of that in the video.

Tackle: Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through. A small shot was nipped on the line, four inches from the Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook. Bait was a single maggot, which I nipped with scissors.

Nature notes: Song thrush singing, which I captured in the video.
