Talking angling on radio, followed by a canal fishing session after pike

It was a change of routine, as far as my angling habit of fishing at first-thing was concerned, as I planned for an afternoon session to get the working week underway. With my wife meeting our eldest daughter for a day’s shopping at Merry Hill, it was easier for me to take her in the car, as opposed to catching buses.

Plus, now that the days are still getting shorter, I don’t have much fishing time if I go early on Mondays, which is the day I do my weekly angling chat recording with Jeff Pearson for his afternoon show on Bayside Radio. Once I finished though, I changed, loaded the car and I was on my way.

I’ve had a few encounters with pike recently, while pursuing perch on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal, and it’s been in the radar to return with some predator gear. Hence, it was dead-bait rods, pike box and bag that went in the back of the car on this occasion. Plus, a pack of sprats.

I fished for four hours and had one run, which I brought to the net, only for the hook to pull just before I could secure the fish. And I really do mean ‘just’. So close and yet so far. Never mind, there’s always another day. There’s always tomorrow.
