🦔 Hedgehog in the garden 🏎️ Another crazed driver on the road 🎣 Bream, roach and tench on the bank
Continuing my current run of early angling starts, I let my dog in the garden while I made a flask of tea in the kitchen.
As soon as he barked, I knew what it was and going outside myself, I saw the first hedgehog of the year.
As I set off to go fishing, for the second day on the bounce I had a crazed driver behind me flashing his lights because I wasn’t going fast enough.
On this occasion, I had a works van in front of me and, with a trickle of cars coming the other way, I certainly wasn’t going to play Russian roulette with my life.
If Mr. Mercedes wants to kill himself, be my guest.
As for me, I want to live as full a life as I can and for as long as possible.
That includes going fishing every day in 2025, with this session more of the same as far as the recent outings have been concerned.

Casting 2-3 lengths from the bank in water that is approximately a couple of metres deep, I’ve been taking advantage of the early morning feeding spell.
On this occasion, I was joined by a jack pike who was attracted by the small roach.
After catching a couple myself, it then went very quiet indeed.
That was fine, because the plan anyway was to catch something bigger, and that materialised when I played and netted a tench.
It was very long but weight-wise ‘just’ 4-6-0, so not my biggest of the year.
This was followed by tench, bream and another roach right at the end.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Nature notes: Grey wagtail. Pair of stock doves in mating chase flight, at least two other birds calling in far bank woodland.
