🎣 Four species of fish on prawn 🌲 Rooting in a garden 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Happy St. George’s Day

Although it felt chilly as the day began, it was actually quite mild, with the car reading showing 8C.

The reason for the impression that it wasn’t anywhere near that figure was the wind. Blowing from the north and, with heavy rain during the night, it was such that I was in my thermal suit for this session.

I fished a prawn 2-3 rod-lengths out in open water over brown crumb, mixed maggots and prawns.

With something in my diary at 9.00 a.m. it was a short session of a couple of hours, which gave me time to get home, eat breakfast etc before moving on.

The concept of the ‘quickie’ when it comes to angling is an important one.

Don’t have much time? No worries, you can still get a couple of hours in and when you fish at the ‘right’ time, two hours is better than twice that when it’s not as productive.

As it was I caught four species of fish – bream, perch, roach and tench.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

Nature notes: Grey wagtail low over the pool, several sightings of single birds. Common buzzard in flight mobbed by a jackdaw. Single raven calling in flight.

Once home, I was off to my 9.00 a.m. appointment, where I was digging tree roots from a garden.

It’s an ongoing project and I’m doing an hour a week.

You can see two of the roots in the video.

Also in the video, Happy St. George’s Day. Although I’m very proud of my Welsh heritage, born in Staffordshire to English parents, I’m incredibly proud of my country.

The flag of St. George is happily fluttering over my garage door today.

I’ve had an excellent run with those species though, so I’m certainly not complaining.
