🎣 The best tench of the year as the 2025 personal bests continue
Now that the long Easter weekend has ended, it’s back to work for many.
For me though, I was getting in the car first thing, not to head to a factory or an office, but a pool to do some fishing.
Ah, the pure joy of retirement.
Casting a couple of rod-lengths from the bank in six-feet of water, I fished a prawn over brown crumb, prawns and mixed maggots.
The session wasn’t as prolific as my previous one, however, the tench that I caught was my biggest of the species so far this year at 5-8-4.
It was a really solid fish as well. Great species, aren’t they.
I’m catching a few year personal bests of late – bream, perch, roach and tench – which is no coincidence, as the water temperature is on the rise and the fish are more active.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Nature notes: Ring-necked parakeet in flight on arrival. Several grey wagtail sightings, single bird. Stock dove calling from far bank woodland. Song thrush landed in the tree next to me and starting singing, until it saw me and flew away.
