An important life principle

It’s important to push yourself in life.

You know the sort of thing, you need to do something but you can’t get motivated, so you tell yourself you’ll do it tomorrow.

However, if you do prod yourself into action today, you’re glad you did.

On the other hand you need to read your body.

There are times when you can’t get going, not because you’re feeling a lack of motivation but rather because your body needs a rest.

It’s about balance and the importance of listening to your body.

My very active lifestyle was reduced to ticking over during the last week, when a virus paid me an unwelcome visit.

I don’t bother about colds, I carry on, but this was different.

When I lost half a stone in three days and I didn’t get out of bed until 3.30 p.m. on the first day, that was the outward evidence of what I already knew anyway.

I didn’t even bother pushing myself to go fishing. I couldn’t, even if I wanted to.

I battened down the hatches and rode the viral storm.

On the day before I turned the corner, I was so tired on the evening, I went for a lie down for a couple of hours.

It was 7.30 p.m. and I slept for ten not two.

When I woke though, I knew I’d moved on.

My body told me; I felt it.

There are times when we do need to push ourselves but always within the framework of listening to our body as well.

It’s an important life principle.

No matter how motivated you are, you can’t run a marathon with a broken leg.

  1. Some decent fish there Stewart on a very cold morning. And a cheeky Robin. Makes it all worthwhile.

    1. Taking everything into account, I was quite thrilled.
Robins. The anglers’ friend. Lovely birds.
