It’s nice to be back on the bank

Bankside footage from the session.

Dark and cold, frozen toes; scraping ice from the car windows, fingers, what are those?

It sounds like a poem, doesn’t it?

It wasn’t my intention to go all Wordsworth though, I was just expressing my experience as I got ready to go fishing.

After a few days without casting a line, it was nice to run through a familiar routine again.

It was even better to be on the bank.

Although it felt more wintry than autumnal, nevertheless the fish were feeding well.

On a pond with depths between two and three feet deep, the fish adjust to the falling water temperature over time.

They may not be as prolific feeders at this time of the year compared to the summer months, but they still eat.

In the ninety minutes I was there, I had regular bites and banked both perch and roach.

The bulk of the catch consisted of the latter, which is to be expected in the current conditions.

You can see some of the fish caught in the video, as well as the tackle used.

It’s been cold the last few days but as long as your bait’s in the water though, you’ve always got a chance.

Have you been out? If so, I hope you’ve been catching.

Nature watch: Vocal raven in the immediate area. Kingfisher flew across the pond. Cormorant landed on the water, saw me and flew off.

  1. Some decent fish there Stewart on a very cold morning. And a cheeky Robin. Makes it all worthwhile.

    1. Taking everything into account, I was quite thrilled.
Robins. The anglers’ friend. Lovely birds.
