Pond, prawn and perch
We’re in a cold spell at the moment and that means that stillwaters in particular are very clear.
Combined with low water temperatures and shallow ponds, my small venue fishing spots are certainly a challenge.
Not that it was intentional, in that sense, but I took difficult to the next level, when I set my stall out to catch perch on legered prawn.
Casting beneath overhanging branches a rod length or so from the bank, a light leger (1/8 ounce) was ample for the job in hand.
I hooked a prawn on a size 8 Drennan Super Specialist, cast out and gently tightened to the lead, allowing slight slack.
I fished over prawns and maggots.
I had a take early one and I saw the fish in the clear water before it shed the hook.
Fortunately, I did get further bites of the cherry.
It was a very enjoyable session. Isn’t that the way it should be?
Some decent fish there Stewart on a very cold morning. And a cheeky Robin. Makes it all worthwhile.
Taking everything into account, I was quite thrilled.
