Blogging life’s journey: November 2025

An angling start to the working week, with a small pool session followed by talking fishing on radio

Monday morning fishing, especially at this time of the year, is always going to be tight in terms of time, because it’s when I record my weekly angling slot on Bayside Radio. Still, I can get a couple of hours on the bank and it’s prime time as well.

That’s where keeping my rod and gear already set up is a big bonus. I get to the water’s edge, piece the two sections together, get the right depth, put the bait on the hook and away I go.  Plus, in this type of scenario, I will fish fairly close to where I live.

On this occasion, I fished a small pool.  Although we have moved on from the sub-zero air temperatures of last week, nevertheless the water is still very cold. Although I was hopeful of a perch, realistically it was going to be roach on the bank and that proved to be the case.

I saw several kingfishers, although most likely to be one bird, or possibly two at the most. A grey heron landed on the far bank and proceeded to wade through the margins, as it waited patiently for a fish to reveal itself. A pair of calling ravens flew overhead.
