🎣 Back on track with the tench 🗓️ Five months today 🏡 Border control
🎣 After banking just one fish in three sessions – although it would have been very different if I had netted every one that I hooked – I was still up for the challenge, as I returned to the tench lake.
With mist lying low over the water, it looked very autumnal, as I made my way to the swim.
I decided to move further along the bank, due to the fact that on the previous sessions there was weed in front of me. Would that make a difference?
I fished 25 yards out, with a grain of sweetcorn over balls of brown crumb and corn.
Two hours into the session I hooked a tinca, which I’m thrilled to say, hit the back of the landing net on this occasion.
I thought it might have been heavier, but the scales never lie, and the weight was 5-15-0. Still a very nice fish though, and especially so as the fishing is tough at present.
Talking of which, again no feeding bubbles anywhere on the lake.
Jacuzzi or not, I added a second tench before the 3.5 hour session came to an end.
Like the welcoming of yesterday’s downpour, has the tinca drought finally come to an end?
Time will tell. And, as the next point in this blog post confirms, I’ve got plenty of that.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 5mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce bomb. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Several swifts feeding high over the lake. Great crested grebes feeding.
🗓️ Time flies when you’re having fun and that’s a fact.
It seems like five weeks, but today is five months since I retired, and I’ve loved every minute of it.
No work, fishing every day, no work, fishing every day, no work, fishing every day.
Did I mention that I don’t have to go to work and I go fishing every day?
Regarding the former though, like a lot of retired people, I’m still doing a few hours a month but it’s very different to formal, structured employment.
That was all part of the plan anyway when I retired, as I’m still a few years off a pension.
In fact I would like to extend my hours but I won’t be applying for anything.
On paper, I’m too old, so there’s no point in that. Something will turn up though.
Finally, another big positive with retirement is my car. In five months I’ve only done 2,400 miles.
🏡 I also went to work in the garden today, focusing on the border that I recently created.
I cut back ivy from the fence, which was quite dense. Now, it not only creates extra space but lets in more sunlight.
The daffodils, forget-me-nots and snowdrops have long since gone for the year and also, sadly, a number of plants that perished while we were away on holiday last week due to lack of rain.
I’ve moved a few others around though, from elsewhere in the garden, and suddenly the border looks promising again.
I was thinking it will be next year when it actually looks decent but I’m hoping that it won’t be too bad this summer either.
