Movie review: Across The Bridge (1957), a black and white movie from The Rank Organisation starring Rod Steiger
A black and white movie from 1957 and made by The Rank Organisation, Across The Bridge stars Rod Steiger. As far as on location was concerned, the filming was done in Spain.
There’s more in the video, but Rod Steiger plays Carl Schaffner, who flees to Mexico when it’s discovered that he’s been stealing money from the business. He encounters a fellow traveller, Paul Scarff (played by Bill Nagy), who looks very similar to him, so he throws him off the train and steals his identity.
Unknown to him, Scarff is a killer on the run, and their paths cross again as the movie develops. In the end, both men die, with Schaffner’s body ending up straddling the international border between USA and Mexico, as he tries to return to the safety of the latter.
