As the clocks go back, a last-minute change of angling plan, as I hit the river rather than the canal
Going to bed, I had my angling plan in place for when I woke, which was to fish the Staffs & Worcs Canal. With the clocks going back, it also meant that I had an extra hour before the Sunday boat traffic, plus with it being half-term, that meant a few extra vessels on top.
However, when I got to the car on the drive, and was confronted by thick ice on the glass, there was a change of plan. Funnily enough, I had just checked the river levels website and saw that the local River Stour was normal and steady.
With a sharp, and unexpected, overnight frost more likely to have a negative effect on still water fish, as opposed to those in flowing water, I changed my plan. As far as the tackle was concerned, all I needed to do was swap my float rod for a light leger one. It took seconds.
You can pick up the session itself via the video, where I caught dace, perch, roach and three-spined sticklebacks. On the nature front, a couple of noisy ring-necked parakeets flew over the river. I heard them before I saw them. I also spotted a grey wagtail.
