Pike tackle purchases, a predator on the bank and the angling chair repair
I do try and support my local tackle shop as much as possible, but there are so many individual items available that you’d need a shop the size of a football field, to stock every single option and permutation.
That’s where the internet comes in handy but, even then, you find yourself going to different sites, especially for specialist items. My latest order can be seen at the start of the video, which also features my wife.
Then, the video moves to the ‘rubber hitting the road’ stage, where I actually go fishing. On a small pool, the rain didn’t bother me. In fact, I welcomed it because it meant no other anglers, no passers-by and, more importantly, no dogs in the water, which is sometimes an issue on this pool.
The tackle I fished with was as follows: Wychwood Extremis 3lb pike rod/Wychwood Extremis 50 reel and Shakespeare 3lb rod/Regal X 4050BRT reel. 16lb Sufix Synergy line. Size 4 hooks.
I was there for three hours and caught one pike. It came to the net twice, before surging away again, but it was a case of ‘third time lucky’ as I eventually secured it. Nature-wise, I saw a kingfisher in flight, low over the water.
Finally, I got my angling chair repaired and this time it really is as good as new. In fact, much better than when I did my recent DIY job on it. A visit to Ian Clarke’s engineering unit and, along with Ian, Ethan and Kev, the work of the professionals put my amateur efforts to shame.
They put some big, solid bolts in, and even drilled the holes in the frame so that 6mm became 8mm. Me messing about in my garage with step four handyman’s tools and equipment was nothing compared to the Premier League engineers.
