Another working day touring the Black Country, followed by a very late brook angling session
It really was the start of the working week for me, when I spent Monday driving around the Black Country. Just as far as destinations are concerned – never mind towns I passed through – that included Bilston, Halesowen (twice), Gornal Wood, Kingswinford (twice), Lower Gornal and West Bromwich.
I was keeping an eye on the time as the day wore on, waiting for the, ‘You can finish now’, words that meant I could go fishing. Ordinarily, it wouldn’t be an issue, but I have been every day so far in 2025 and, now we’re well into October, I didn’t want to stop the sequence at this stage of the year.
Anyway, it really was late by the time I arrived home. I ended up fishing a tiny brook that I’ve been wanting to go at for a while. There are some tiny three-spined sticklebacks in there and, with just ten minutes of fishing, I caught one.
I was absolutely thrilled, as the fish seen were so tiny, and I had to be very quick on the strike. Of course, there must be larger ones in there and that’s the challenge, to locate them.
I fished with my standard stickleback mini-rod and reel and a white maggot. The water is about 1-3 inches deep and the fish hide away in overhanging cover.
