🎣 Happy blog day and the first angling session of the year on the River Stour
Today is the first blog day of 2026 and I went fishing. Mind, it wasn’t anything specifically to do with it being twenty-two years and twenty-six months since I published my first post. I just go fishing anyway. Even when I don’t even get a bite. Like today.
Although the conditions are challenging at present – to put it mildly – nevertheless I still have the passion and the drive. I guess that’s the key in a nutshell. If you want to go, go, and if you don’t, don’t. I do, so I do. Today’s session was two hours.
With the extremely cold spell continuing, the frozen still waters meant that, as far as choice was concerned, it was flowing water or nothing. Hence, I made my way to the Worcestershire River Stour, although I was actually in the county of my birth, Staffordshire.
Of course, I knew it was going to be tough. Confidence, as I so often say, is a big part of angling. However, as I then always add, we need to be realistic as well. Both air and water temperatures are currently rock bottom, so let’s be feet on the ground people, as opposed to head in the clouds.
