🎥 Movie review: The Scarlet Web (1954) starring Griffith Jones, Hazel Court and Zena Marshall
The Scarlet Web is a 1954 British black and white B movie and was filmed at Walton Studios, Surrey, and on location in London. The studios closed in 1961, with a claim to fame for releasing the first film adaptation of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland (1903).
Jake Winter (played by Griffith Jones) is released from prison after working as an undercover police plant. He is met by Laura Vane (played by Zena Marshall) who has a plan to set him up as the murderer of a woman, so that she can marry the husband, Charles Dexter (played by Robert Percival).
They’re in it together as there’s a £50,000 insurance pay out involved. Jake works with his fellow insurance colleague, Susan Honeywell (Hazel Court) and together they solve the case and, in the end scene, as they pass their information to the police, they have now become an item of their own.
