🎣 Blog day, In the village, Wolves and Fishing
It’s blog day. That comes round quickly, I must say. I know that it’s weekly but it seems much shorter than that. What am I referring to? Well, today is 22 years and 27 weeks since I published my first post and, I’m still going strong.
Fishing is tough at the moment and that’s just finding somewhere to go, never mind battling the snow and ice. I live in a valley and it’s very picturesque but, with our home on a slope, it means that my car has been on the drive for two days.
Last night was predicted to be minus-4C, and it certainly looked and felt like that this morning. After my wife and I walked to the village to get bread, I watched most of the Wolverhampton Wanderers v Shrewsbury Town game on television. Wolves are flying at the moment.
Once the final whistle went, I got my angling gear together, pulled on my boots and set off on a trek. After yesterday’s high and coloured brook, I was hoping that, a day later, I was going to find something much more fishable.
It certainly was better and I was able to fish a few likely looking places. I know that there are sticklebacks in there but they are small and thin on the ground. I didn’t catch but I enjoyed the walk and there’s no doubt about it, things will improve sooner rather than later on the piscatorial front.
I fished with my Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel, which is loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon. The brook isn’t fished and its inhabitants aren’t line or hook shy. The hook itself was a size 16 Drennan Super Specialist hook, with a size 6 shot six inches away. Bait was a single maggot.
