🎣 First pike of the year by design

Some of the waters that I fish have rules regarding the bait-fishing season for pike, while others don’t.

I limit myself from October 1-March 14, which, for those with rules, is what they stipulate anyway.

Therefore, with time running out as far as the current season is concerned, I want to get a few sessions in before the middle of next month.

Although just a small pike, it was nice to get off the mark as well on a pool.

Actually it’s my third of the year but the previous two weren’t caught by design (one on sweetcorn and the other with maggots).

From the supermarket to the water’s edge.

Watch on YouTube.

Tackle: Wychwood Extremis 3lb pike rod/Wychwood Extremis 50 reel and Shakespeare 3lb rod/Regal X 4050BRT reel. 16lb Sufix Synergy line. Greys Prowla 30g and Drennan Zeppler 35g floats. Size 4 hooks.

Nature notes: Song thrush singing in trees alongside the pool. They’re really coming alive in recent days, as the weather has turned. Always great to hear.
