🎣 A pike tutorial with Steve Titley plus fishing

I often engage with passers-by when I’m fishing and, a couple of weeks back I chatted with Steve Titley, who was out with his granddaughter, Isla, for a walk.

We had a nice conversation and he was very keen on doing some pike fishing. Fast-forward to this morning and that’s exactly what we did.

Meeting at a small pool, we had a couple of hours watching pike floats and, although the predators weren’t playing ball, hopefully it was a profitable time for Steve.

As well as what’s in the video, we looked at pike bites, what bait fish to use, how to hook them, handling pike once on the mat and more.

They’re all important issues when deciding to pursue pike. Although they may look like ferocious creatures – and they are if you’re a tiny roach – in actual fact, from our perspective, they are delicate when caught.

When I first met Steve, he showed his granddaughter a maggot and she ran off screaming. Now she’s digging worms. As I say in the video, it will be nice to see Isla with her first fish. She’s on the right path.
