A nice sunrise and a cold angling session
Although I was on my way before the sun appeared proper, it was nice to see the beginning of the sunrise over the valley.
Before I could leave the drive though, I was scraping ice from the car windows.
There has been a lot of inconsistency as far as the weather is concerned recently, the common denominator though is that I just go fishing anyway.
On a small pool, the water is only between two and three feet deep, so it’s shallow.
The fish adapt though to their environment and with lots of roach present, I’m always confident on this particular spot.
Heavy rain the previous day meant the water was very coloured.
Casting was extremely difficult due to the rings at the top of the rod locked solid with ice.
Fortunately, I was just flicking the waggler off the rod tip anyway, so it didn’t cause any major issues.
I loose fed maggots and fished with two whites on a size 14 hook.
It took a while before I caught the first roach but then the action was regular.
I wouldn’t describe it as hectic but consistent.
Still, due to the conditions, I was more than happy with the fish I caught.
Nature watch: I heard it first and then watched the ring-necked parakeet through the binoculars.
There was a flock of c.20 redpolls feeding in the common alder tree above me.
As I was packing away, two kingfishers flew across the pond.
The only resident bird on there was a single moorhen, typical of venues that size.
